CROWNS (CAPS)

A crown, or cap, is a custom-made covering that encases the entire tooth surface, restoring its original shape, size, and function. Crowns protect and strengthen teeth that cannot be restored with fillings or other methods.

Reasons for Crowns:

  • Cosmetic Enhancement

  • Dental Decay

  • Fractured Fillings

  • Large Fillings

  • Tooth with a Root Canal

Porcelain (tooth-colored) crowns are the most popular choice due to their durability and natural appearance. Though crowns are highly durable, they may eventually need to be replaced. Porcelain crowns are designed to blend with your existing teeth, ensuring a beautiful and long-lasting smile.

What Does Getting a Crown Involve?

The crown procedure typically requires two appointments. During the first visit, highly accurate molds (impressions) are taken to create your custom crown. A temporary crown will be placed for about two weeks while the permanent one is being fabricated.

While the tooth is numbed, the dentist removes any decay and reshapes the surface to fit the crown. The temporary crown is secured with temporary cement, and your bite is checked for accuracy.

At the second appointment, the temporary crown is removed, the tooth is cleaned, and the new crown is carefully placed. You’ll receive care instructions and are encouraged to attend regular check-ups to ensure the longevity of your new crown.
