Dental emergencies can be frightening and painful, requiring prompt treatment to alleviate pain and ensure the best chance for tooth survival. At Navasota Dental, we provide immediate care for a wide range of dental emergencies, including fractured teeth, lost fillings or crowns, and knocked-out teeth. Types of Dental Emergencies:
- Avulsed Tooth (Knocked-Out Tooth): If a tooth is knocked out, it is essential to your dentist immediately. It is important to keep the tooth from drying out by storing it in milk or your own saliva or saline as a last resort. Teeth that are re-implanted within 1 hour have more chances to survival.
- Lost Filling or Crown: Keep the crown and bring it to your appointment. Apply clove oil to the affected tooth for temporary pain relief.
- Cracked or Broken Teeth: Rinse your mouth with warm water and apply gauze if there’s bleeding. Schedule an appointment with our office as soon as possible.
- Dislodged or Loose Teeth: If your tooth has become loose due to trauma or decay, contact us immediately for an appointment. Pain can be managed with over-the-counter medication until you’re able to see us.
- Swelling/Infected Tooth: Apply a cold compress to the outside of your cheek to minimize swelling. Take over-the-counter pain relievers as needed and see your dentist as soon as possible.
- Chipped Front Teeth: Rinse with warm water, stop bleeding with gauze, and cover sharp edges with dental wax or sugar-free gum. Visit your dentist soon.
